Effective Date: July 1, 2026
FasalNetra ("the App") is developed and maintained by Annam.AI Centre of Excellence at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information.
1. Information We Collect
When you use FasalNetra, we may collect the following information:
Personal Information: Name, mobile number, and user role (farmer, field officer, researcher, or administrator) provided during registration.
Crop Images: Photos captured or uploaded for AI-based disease and pest detection.
Location Data: GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) to geographically tag observations, with your permission.
Device Information: Device model, operating system version, and app version for compatibility and debugging purposes.
Usage Data: Detection results, timestamps, and interaction patterns within the app.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information to:
Provide AI-powered pest and disease detection services.
Improve our AI models using anonymized image data for research purposes.
Generate aggregated agricultural insights for pest surveillance and outbreak monitoring.
Synchronize your data securely between your device and cloud storage.
Communicate important updates or advisories related to the app.
3. Data Storage and Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data:
All data is stored locally on your device and synced to secure cloud infrastructure (AWS) when internet is available.
Cloud storage uses encryption at rest and in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
Access to stored data is restricted to authorized personnel only.
We do not store your passwords; authentication is handled through secure token-based mechanisms.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. Data may be shared in the following circumstances:
Anonymized and aggregated data may be shared with IIT Ropar and affiliated research institutions for academic and agricultural research.
Government agricultural bodies may receive non-personal, aggregated pest and disease statistics to assist in surveillance efforts.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
5. Location Data
FasalNetra requests location access to tag crop observations with GPS coordinates. This helps in:
Creating geographic maps of pest and disease outbreaks.
Supporting field survey operations.
Providing location-relevant advisory information.
You may deny location permission at any time through your device settings. The core detection functionality will continue to work without GPS.
6. Camera and Photo Access
The App requests camera and photo library access solely to capture or select crop images for AI analysis. Images are processed on our servers for detection and are not shared publicly.
7. Offline Data and Synchronization
FasalNetra is designed to work offline. When internet connectivity is unavailable, all observations are stored locally on your device. Data is automatically synchronized to the cloud when connectivity is restored.
8. Your Rights
As a user, you have the right to:
Access and review the data we have collected about you.
Request deletion of your account and all associated data.
Opt out of data collection for AI model improvement.
Withdraw location permissions at any time.
9. Children's Privacy
FasalNetra is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted within the app and on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
